Ward 1 Senior Wellness Center Opens, February 28, 2011
It’s been over four months since the ribbon cutting for the Ward 1 Senior Wellness Center, and now it is time for it to begin serving the community.
According to an announcement sent out by Michelle Singleton, Director of the Ward 1 Senior Wellness Center, “0pening day will be an open house with a morning and afternoon orientation session scheduled to provide an opportunity for registrants to become familiar with the center, programs, equipment and policies and procedures to ensure safety. The remainder of the week will be a daily showcase of programs being offered at the center. The regular monthly calendar will be introduced during the week of March 7th.” A grand opening and naming ceremony is anticipated to take place in April.
While a fully operational wellness center has been a long time coming, it will be well worth the wait. Registration is open to District residents, 60 years of age or older.
The building’s features include:
* Nutrition Counseling and teaching classrooms
* Intake Room
* Health Education Seminar Rooms
* Exercise and Fitness Area
* Massage Room
* Computer Training Center
* Multipurpose Rooms for health, wellness and social activities
* Roof top terrace with trail path trial
