Annie’s Ace Hardware Store Coming to Petworth!

Here’s some incredibly exciting news … our area is getting a new hardware store called Annie’s Ace Hardware. It will be located at 1240 Upshur Street in Petworth and is planning to open by November 2011. You can read the entire press release here.

The store will be owned by Park View resident Anne Stom. According to the press release it will span 7,000 square-feet and stock 15,000 products and have access to more than 80,000 products from the Ace warehouse.

The announcement also states that Annie’s Ace Hardware will carry the Benjamin Moore paint line, Craftsman tools, and will have a lawn and garden section. “We’ll have all the basic hardware products that people expect from an Ace hardware store, but we’ll also be revising and updating our merchandise as we get feedback from customers,” Stom said.

This is definitely a much-needed and welcome addition to our community.

This is really great news! I cannot stand Home Depot and often go all the way to P street or NYA to go to ACE. Its a great space, but I hope enough people get windo of it to know its there and it will be a great success.

  4. IMGoph Says:

Fantastic. Hopefully the “I wanted a fusion bahn-mi/speakeasy/charcuterie joint” complaints will be minimal! 🙂

No more trips to Home Depot for me!!!

  8. Fantastic news. Especially as one that’s at Home Depot every other weekend.

I really hope they use that bare concrete in front of the building between the sidewalk and the façade for something that engages that sidewalk and the street. Like a display area or part of the home and garden stuff. Could be a really nice, inviting place to walk past too if they do it right. Hoping it won’t just be 6 parking spaces instead. 🙂

  9. This is the most encouraging part of her press release. She clearly gets that the needs of folks in the city and the neighborhood are different than those folks buying stuff for their Sheetrock Mansions in the burbs.

“This isn’t a suburban store,” Stom said. “That means our model needs to be different in terms of transportation options, as well as our product mix.” For example, she explained, lawn equipment will be geared toward the smaller yards of the nearby row houses. “We will also look at home renovation products that are appropriate for houses built in the early 20th century.”

    Fantastic.

I look forward to spending my money at a local place too. I really hope they have a decent garden section too in the summer and spring…plants, flowers, soil etc. Also, is it possible to have tanks for gas grills? When I think of all my frustrating trips to home depot for these things…I can’t wait for this place to open!

    Hi Everyone,

First, Thanks to Kent for publishing this! And second, thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments. We are so happy to be a part of this community and glad that we are going to be able to contribute.

We will have a good lawn and garden department and a pet department as well. Also, we will be stocking ‘green’ products as much as we can.

Please keep suggestions coming..I can’t promise that we will be able to respond to all suggestions or that we will have them right when we open but we do want to know.

Thanks again for such an awesome welcome! I will keep you updated on progress!

Hi Everyone, It looks as if the store won’t be open until February 7, 2012. A bit later than I wanted but that is the way of construction. We now have a website…www.annieshardware.com . Please check it out. I will post updates on the store there.

Also, please check out the cool picture on our website that Kent found…it’s of the Petworth Hardware store which was on Upshur Street next to Domku.
