Status Update for Georgia Avenue’s “The Avenue” Project
According to information shared by Duane Oates at the November 9th ANC 1A meeting, The Avenue project is on schedule to be completed by June 2012. Work on the site will remain mostly on the ground floor level for the next three weeks, after which time the building should rise quickly.
Landex Corporation’s Catherine Fennell, while attending the November 14th Georgia Avenue Community Economic Development Task Force, also addressed the community regarding the building. According to Fennell, in addition to having a green roof the building will include a fitness center. The 83 unit mixed use building will also have 2,300 sq. ft. of retail space on the ground floor along Georgia Avenue.
At this time there is no identified business in mind for The Avenue, but Fennell did suggest that the size would be appropriate for a coffee shop or a dry cleaners. Pre-leasing for the commercial and residential space is expected to begin in January and February of 2012.
Both Oates and Fennell have expressed a wiliness to speak before the community again as the project develops and more information is known.
